Afrique du Sud - Private Game Reserve
    Amakhala Private Game Reserve
    Amakhala Game Reserve - 8 000 ha
    Chalet de Luxe en suite
Fair Trade Tourism The Good Safari Guide Malaria Free

Among the Frontier Settlers some five generations ago, our families settled in the Eastern Cape to farm sheep and cattle on the wild and often hostile Zuurveld. We are still here in the now historic and hospitable Frontier Country, only today our Private Game Reserve offers a wildlife experience that will capture your imagination, refresh your soul and help to conserve our natural heritage.
Here you will also experience the warm hospitality of the settler family descendants who run The Heritage Collection of Game lodges, and you may discover some of our little "secrets"; like the prehistoric bushman burial ground, or the site of Africa's most ancient dinosaur fossil finds.

    Les Points Forts
    Wildlife Relocations
Since its inception in 1999, Amakhala Game Reserve has aimed to complete the ecological restoration process by re-establishing the original complement of wildlife, much of which has been absent from the area for some 150 years.
As a result of the devastating drought in Northern Zululand, Amakhala Game Reserve has relocated a family group of 10 elephants from Phinda Game Reserve there. They were humanely captured and carefully transported 1600 kilometres to the Eastern Cape. To meet the requirements of the larger animals, the perimeter fence has been electrified, ranger training has been extended and new staff employed.

    Hands on Volunteers
Amakhala Game Reserve also offers a programme suitable for persons of all ages looking for that something different as part of a gap year or following a life change. This is your chance to contribute to conservation, to make a difference and to return to nature.
    Field Traning Guide
Ulovane Environmental Training is independently run by Schalk and Candice Pretorius and has been operational on Amakhala Game Reserve since 2005. Their vision is to provide Amakhala Game Reserve and the Eastern Cape Field Guide Industry with top of the range Field Guides.
